The problem is at least three years old, and it should not take three years to come up with a firmware update to fix the problem. I have always suspected that there was some sort of hardware fault in the design of the AMD USB ports, while others have suspected a firmware issue. I have also read that the latest AMD boards, just released in 2021, do not seem to suffer the same issues, which is a good thing. There seems to be some sort of issue related to USB ports on AMD motherboards. They do not seem to like to play together. Before you do, conduct some research into the AMD Ryzien(?) CPU boards compatibility with Canon cameras. If you plan to build a PC, I assume that it will be a Windows 10 PC. I'm going to continue saving RAW + JPEG, build a new PC for photo and hopefully can get DPP to work on that one. I've been installing and re-installing, DPP and Adobe's converter, I can't tell if one of those helped Luminar or if something from Dx0. ![]() Oddly, Luminar AI also started to recognize R6 CR3s. I've also installed trial version of Dx0 Photolab which does open R6 CR3. I considered going the perpetual license Lr too, but also wanted something that would continue to be supported, upgraded and my original post, I've tried Adobe's converter which doesn't recognize R6 CR3 files. It has a large following and community of users on PC's Intel / AMD, and MAC if thats your thing. Its free to try, and is on sale for easter currently. The moment however you get a 3rd party lens, the party's over. DPP is great for users who stay within the Canon eco system. I haven't experieneced any performance issues with it. DPP seems to like Intel based system's over AMD. I undersdtand though you want a streamlined process, the less steps the better. Notice the file sizes between uncompressed sensor data and JPEG.Brings up a good point, the DNG converter will work. Photos taken in this OnePlus One Cyanogen/Android smartphone created JPEG and DNG files at the same time. See RAW image format, CinemaDNG, EXIF, TIFF-EP, IPTC IIM and XMP. In addition, DNG supports a checksum that enables software to immediately recognize a corrupted file, and it holds meta-data in the EXIF, TIFF-EP, IPTC and XMP formats, which might otherwise be in a separate file. Adobe's DNG Converter utility can convert many popular RAW formats into DNG, and in complete contrast to saving space, can embed the RAW file within the DNG format if the original is required. DNG also supports a lossless compression option to save storage space. The DNG format provides a standard that not only Adobe but other graphics programs increasingly support, and DNG files are typically smaller than other RAW formats. Although various cameras can natively store DNG images, most cannot however, Adobe provides software that converts many RAW formats to DNG. DNG is an extension to the TIFF 6.0 format and is compatible with TIFF-EP. ( Digital Ne Gative image format) A digital camera file format from Adobe introduced in 2004 to provide a standard for unprocessed RAW images.
